It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.

Well, it finally happened.

I am a college graduate.

This entire week has been a blur...

We began cleaning and installation on Saturday evening. I remember helping clean but then it's all a mash up of painting, building, bonding, arrainging and not sleeping.

The graduation show was a total success. The entire exhibit looked amazing.

The ceremony was today and it was also very fast paced and hectic.

"Amazing" photography.

I will start our by saying this:

I love fine art. I love fine art photography. I think that some of it is insightful, amazing and inspiring and I would one day love to be a fine art photographer (though I could argue that I am one now, maybe).

Well, I heard from a fine art photography student that today he learned about something called "Amazing photography".

I asked him what that was and this is the definition that he gave me:

Amazing photography: fine art photography that is not concept driven but is executed with the utmost technical proficiency.

Wait, isn't that commercial photography?

I mean, really?

Augh. Drama in the photo world.

Grad Wall Layout.

I am having an exceptionally hard time deciding how to layout my grad wall. It is especially difficult because I already mounted and printed the images. This is how it looks so far. Any suggestions?

The Candid Frame

Yesterday I was fortunate enough to interview with Ibarionex Perello from The Candid Frame. You can hear the interview at his website or find it through Itunes.

Ibarionex has interviewed over 70 photographers, some established and some emerging.

I along with 4 other graduates were interviewed about our work and our ever impending transition into the professional world.

Sweet Sixteen

I had the honor of designing the promotional material for our graduation show. It took me about a week (there are 16 of us, and well, you know...) but its done and its amazing! Oh, and I also programmed the website! It was fun, but also intense.

I had 11x17 posters printed. We will be posting them around town and if anyone would like to put them on their blog it would be greatly appreciated.

You can visit the site at:

www.sweetsixteenshow.com

From there you can visit everyone's website.

If you are in the Los Angeles Area and would like to see the work the show is on display fir 2 nights. August 13 is industry night and August 14 is for friends and family. 7-10 @ 1700 Lida st, Pasadena.

Updating is hard to do...

Well, I have not blogged since August.

Honestly, I kind of forgot I had a blog. Life gets hectic and really all I ever do online is compulsively check my email.

Let me catch you up on what has been going on! (in no particular order)...

1. I graduate in 2 weeks. I am scared, but I am very excited! I feel ready to exit into the work force. And honestly, I can't image being anything else other than a photographer. I am devoted to it heart and soul.

2. It took me about 6 weeks, but I finished all of my branding and most of my promotional material has been printed (business cards, promos, letterhead). I will be posting images of it soon. I have gotten tons of compliments on it. I love it!

3. Anthony had a fairly intense spec advertising shoot. I got a chance to produce and things wen't really well. :)

4. I got to meet Tim Gunn, lol, well, kind of. I was invited to a shoot for entertainment weekly ,where he and Heidi Klum were the subjects. Sigh. I was sooooooooo excited.

5. I participated in an on campus recruitment session. 11 people from the 'industry' came to see our books and we had the chance to talk with each of them for 15 min. I received a lot of very positive and helpful feed back. I am so grateful to all of the people that attended.

30 People

Augh.

I have a dilemma.

I had the chance to shoot 30 people (my classmates) for a project with the Pasadena Art Alliance and let me tell you, shooting them was only one tenth of the battle.

I went through a lot of ideas, some of them were dumb, some of them were ok.

I finally ended up simplifying everything and shooting everyone on seamless. The shoot lasted two days and I was wayyyyyyy tired at the end of it all.

Some of the pictures were awesome and some were ok.

The TRUE problem came when it was time to organize all of the files for display. Because of the nature of the project and how much money I had for mounting I was constrained to either one 16x20 or 20x24 print.

I guess I could have bargained for more, but I didn't think about it at the time.

Fast forward....

30 people on seamless on one file is BORING! Geez. I feel so much pressure because its kind of a big deal and I know that EVERYONE at school (especially the faculty and department chair) are just waiting to judge my competence the moment they see the print. I know they are!

I ended up making a collaged of sorts, and at first I really hated it, but now its grown on me. I am just so confused, and worried. I dont want the patron to hate it, cus I kind of love it, I dont want 30 people to hate it, and I especially dont want my teacher and department chair to think that I am an idiot.

I am probably just getting way a head of myself.

I can't show the file until May 16th but I can tell you that I titled it "Cosmic Fox".

Sigh, I feel so vulnerable.

Wish me luck, I will let you know how it goes.
